"He's been very good individually, helping the team a lot," Alonso said in a news conference ahead of the team's match against Athletic Bilbao.
"While scoring goals is important, Mbappe also demonstrates leadership, influences his teammates, and provides daily support, which are all crucial aspects of his game."
Real Madrid currently trails Barcelona by a single point in the league standings, following a third consecutive draw in the top flight against Girona.
Rumors have circulated about Alonso's job security as coach, with some speculating that his future with the team may be at stake if they fail to improve their performance.
Alonso acknowledged that he has had conversations with Real Madrid's president, Florentino Perez, to discuss ways to turn the team's form around.
"Our conversations have been positive and focused on improving our results," Alonso said.
"We've struggled with consistency this season, and we aim to play better in our next match."
